This is story about baby Anela born on May 2, 2010 at NIMC Hospital in McHenry Illinois United States Of America. I am writing and crying about our life and tragedy caused by NIMC. While pregnant, my wife was seen many times by her doctor. She was very healthy pregnant woman. Every test she did was normal. Her doctor told us that she was healthier than young moms. Everyone in our family was excited. We were waiting baby with happines and joy. Everything new was purchased for new arrival. My wife and her co-workers at Wal-Mart were happy for us as well. My other children were happy and they planned to do so much during the summer with the baby.
On May second 2010 around 7:30 am my wife woke me up. She was having pain little bitt diferent than back pain. She told me to be ready to take her to the NIMC when she says it is time. Arroud 9:30 am she told me to get up and take her to NIMC. We were very happy and everyone in the house got up. We left the house around 9:45am. As advised while PRE-registered on April 26, 2010 we went to the main entrance. We should be taken right away to the 8th floor. Receptionist told us WE HAVE TO GO TROUGH EMERGENCY ROOM. She did not want to listen about Pre-registration. We went to ER Triage. In begining they did not have any information about Pre-registration, so my wife needed to go all over again with questionary. After she was almost done,Triage receptionist said that she finally found all information from Pre-registration. She appologized. Than nurse from OB came down and took us all up to the 8th floor. WHAT A TIME CONSUMING MESS?
When my wife was taken to 8th floor two nurses were in the room. One nurse told my wife to change and other was taking her blood pressure. Then they put belt around her bally and baby's heart rate was seen on the monitor. It was around 140 beats per minute. Hilary, OB nurse wanted to see how much she was open. When she put her hand inside my wife told her how painfull was. Nurse told us she put her hand behind baby' head. Than she pulled her hand out. My wife told her how painfull that was. She screamed. Heart rate of the baby start to be slower. It dropped all way to 90. They moved my wife to different positions. It did not help. One nurse came in and started to yell loud, where is the oxygen and where is IV for the patient? She put hand inside my wife and pushed baby back. That caused heart rate to disappear. My wife lost consciousness. I start to panic. They called doctor on call. Rita came in saying doctor is not responding and not calling back after being paged. Older nurse asked Rita to call anestesiologist so she can save at least my wife's life. Several minutes later Rita cam in the room saying that anestesiologist is not in the building. I was shocked. Nurse told her to go to hell with the doctor and anestesiologist she will deliver baby herself. She asked Rita to bring consent forms for emergency C-section. I told her to help my wife I will sign form later. I will stay in the room. She did not want. Rita, the nurse brought page 1 of 2 to be signed. I asked her where to sign. Older nurse said it has to be signed at page two, so she told Rita to go and print page two. I start to cry. It took them at least additional 10 minutes to get form ready to be signed. Then she pushed bed with my wife out of the room toward OR area. Couple minutes later I saw doctor Parra running in the top and bottom in jeans asking "where is she, where is she"? I told him that she was taken by the nurse in the OR room. I was with my two daughters shocked and lost. Then I saw security comming to the unit staying next to OR room. Everything was so quiet. Than I saw many people running in and out of the OR room. I asked them how my wife is and how is the baby, no one was answering. Someone called two chaplains to the room. arround 11:50 am CODE BLUE was called. Many people came in the unit and additional security. No one was telling us what is going on. About 12:30 one nurse told me that my wife is OK, but they are not sure if baby will survive. She said they can not get baby's heart to work. I felt how my both knees gave up. I do not know what held me up?
Baby did not have heart working for first 38 minutes of her life. It took them over two hours to intubate her. She was then transferred to Rockford Memorial Hospital by helicopter. Next day she got bad calcium leak burn on her left ankle. Beginning June 2010 she had G-tube placement surgery. She was in RMH for about two months. She was transferred to RUSH - Chicago NICU for second opinion. She was then discharged home with no nursing help. Several days later Anela ended in Lutheran General Hospital PICU for respiratory distress. They wanted to do tracheostomy surgery there. We did not want it. I found baby in very bad condition many times I visited her. It was hell of life. Just to have such tragedy it is more than many people would be able to take but when you see how bad care she received it was shocking. I will write every detail about it later...
Anela was overdosed by Walgreens and she has permanent tremors. Anela was in risk of having seizures but while being overdosed she started very bad sizures. Will write about it later...I tried to transfer Anela out of Lutheran General Hospital, they did not allowed it. It took us more than month to get her out while working with board of directors and upper management at the LGH.
On September 2010 she was admitted to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She had tracheostomy surgery. After tracheostomy surgery she lost her hearing. Ever since she was treated at CMH. She had ear surgery -tube placement. She is treated with seizure medication. Many infections during all hospitalizations. Palliative care and Hospice from nearby town were comming to our house trying hard to KILL the baby. I told them NO ARTIFICIAL DEATH. Many meetings at the CMH and home. Hospice Social Worker Ann told my wife to turn all monitors off, she would not be liable for anything and during seizures to walk out of room. That would end baby's life and no one would be suffering. End October I chased SW out of our house. She called DCFS. They took baby to one of their locations. I was chased out of my house by DCFS Investigator and Local Police with NO SAFETY PLAN or ORDER OF PROTECTION against me. I was told I have to leave or will be arrested. She told police that baby is in bad shape and in distress. She lied also that only medical workers can administer medication. Local Police believed her even we were trained to take care of Anela what we did for many months. Anela was better than ever before. I did not have a choice other than to leave my own house. Anela ended in ER next morning. She was in bad distress while being at the DCFS housing. Her heart rate was over 200. She had black discharge from her G-tube. I still think she was overdosed and granulate was administred - but not sure. Per my wife request she was transferred to CMH.
Ever since Anela was born we are going trough hard time. Financially, emotionally, physically killed. DCFS cases were UNFOUND.
So Anela is still alive and fighting. She is pretty little girl. When you see her you would never think something is wrong with her. I just can not get it? We are shocked. Hospital that killed our dream and people who worked that day should say what went wrong. No one would go to jail even they deserve to. They should never work again. They should organize help for us. They know what they did.
I will write everything in details. Later.... Now I was advised not to do it...
WE ARE LOOKING FOR ANSWERS!!
Thank you all!
